WHAT THE LOOKUP CAN SHOW
The LangBox dictionary popover keeps the information readers need together so you can judge a sense, check pronunciation, and return to the source sentence.
See the recognized word form and its part of speech. When the page uses a plural or another form, you can identify the corresponding entry.
Entries with audio can play a pronunciation and show an IPA form. Availability depends on the dictionary entry and its source.
Automatic mode follows the page language and your preferences. You can switch dictionary language and try the lookup again.
Each sense keeps a source link. Open the source dictionary when you need a longer definition or additional reference material.
HOW TO USE IT
Dictionary lookup is a small reading action, so you do not need to copy a sentence into another tab.
Use desktop Chrome to open an article, technical document, or tutorial and keep the original sentence in view.
Double-click ordinary webpage text and LangBox opens the dictionary popover near the current viewport.
Check the part of speech, pronunciation, translations, sources, and available audio, then return to the sentence to judge the sense.
Press Esc or click away to close. If automatic lookup finds no result, switch dictionary language in the popover and retry.
CHROME DICTIONARY FAQ
LangBox is also a double-click dictionary, but the popover shows the sense in the current sentence, can switch dictionary language, and the words you look up can come back later as review practice. It is part of the same extension that translates web pages.
Make sure you double-clicked ordinary webpage text rather than an input, button, or link control. Page scripts and access restrictions can also affect recognition; refresh and try again.
The popover may show an entry, part of speech, IPA, translations, definitions in the source language, source links, and available audio. Fields vary by entry.
Yes. Use the language controls in the popover to choose another dictionary language and retry. Automatic mode considers the webpage language and your reading preferences.
The dictionary is designed for words and word forms. To translate a sentence or passage, select it and choose “Translate selected text” from Chrome’s context menu.
Dictionary lookup and webpage translation use different service paths. Whether an action is limited by your available access is shown in the product. The example card on this page makes no live request.
LangBox webpage lookup is provided by the desktop Chrome extension. You can read this page on a phone, but installation and lookup require Chrome on a computer.
