Guest access, sign-in, credits and API keys
Choose model access based on what you need: a short trial, continued account use or a provider account you manage yourself. Free installation does not mean unlimited model requests.
Choose an access method
Guest + LangBox model
Eligible guest identities receive a one-time trial allowance. It expires; it is not a recurring monthly grant. Only the models currently marked available to the guest can be used.
Signed-in free account
The current standard free allowance is 2,000,000 tokens, valid for 30 days. The next grant becomes eligible after that period and is issued when account access is checked. It is not a calendar-month refill or a promise that unused credits roll over.
Your own API key (BYOK)
You configure the provider and pay according to its terms. Provider usage is separate from LangBox managed credits. BYOK translation does not feed the automatic reading-to-review capture pipeline.
Check before you translate
- Open the extension settings, then Models. The managed-model panel shows availability and the remaining allowance; inspect this before starting a long page.
- The model list reflects current account eligibility. Different models may consume allowance differently; a token balance is not a fixed number of pages or translations.
- If managed credits are exhausted, wait until the next eligible grant or configure your own provider key. Signing out or repeatedly signing in is not a refill method.
- PDF/EPUB cloud reader workflows require sign-in. The public reading examples can be viewed without uploading a file or spending credits.
Keep control of your key and material
- Treat your API key as a secret. It is stored in the extension’s local browser storage; this is not a promise of encrypted key storage. Never paste it into a public page, screenshot or support message.
- Requests send the text needed for translation to the configured provider. Check its data policy before sharing private material. Revoke an exposed key through that provider and replace it in settings.
- For cross-device account access, sign in on the devices you use. Do not rely on a guest browser session as a recoverable account after clearing browser data.
